31July 2017, Thimphu: The Forest Information Reporting and Monitoring System (FIRMS), an online database system of the Department was formally launched coinciding with celebration of World Ranger Day in Thimphu on July 31, 2017.Hon’ble former Minister, Lyonpo Kinzang Dorji graced the launching in presence of Hon’ble
Prime Minister, Hon’ble Agriculture and Forests Minister, other invited guests and participants gathered for the celebration. The online system, a central database system, to enable collection and reporting of all information and data related to Department was developed by Forest Resources Management Division, (FRMD) with financial support of REDD+ project of World Bank. The online database system was developed to replace earlier offline Microsoft access-based operated Forest Information Database (FID). Unlike FID system, the FIRMS will enable
consistent information and data reporting from the field offices on real time basis. In addition, the FIRMS has been designed to capture all the information and data pertaining to the Department and maintain centrally unlike in the past where data used to be maintained scattered in different divisions. This was done in line with the Department order to maintain so,to ensure better data management as well as prevent discrepancy in data provided to other
consumers. It is also designed such that the data sorting and cleaning will be easier with standard reporting
format and units. All the data managers from field divisions and parks were thoroughly trained to use the system earlier in June 2017.
