A four day workshop on formulation of REDD + options strategy for Tsirang Dzongkhag was successfully completed from 9th October to 12th October, 2017 at Damphu Resort, Tsirang.
The district level consultative REDD+ (countries’ efforts to reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, and foster conservation, sustainable management of forests, and enhancement of forest carbon stocks) strategy development workshop was conducted in two phases. Officials from Agriculture, Livestock, Research sub centre, Bhutan telecom, Bhutan Power Corporation, Engineering section, Bhutan Agriculture and Food Regulatory Authority and Environment sector attended the first phase Dzongkhag level workshop. Consecutively, the second phase geog level workshop was conducted for the representatives from geogs and Community Forest Management Group from all the twelve geog under Tsirang Dzongkhag.
A total of seventy six participants attended the workshop.
The workshop aims to build awareness and capacity on REDD+ to the different relevant sectors and to formulate a strategic plan for identification of activities that can help in reducing emissions from the deforestation and degradation in Tsirang Dzongkhag.
Participants have reviewed the proposed REDD + Strategy options provided suggestions with new proposals/activity. They ranked the proposed actions by relevance and importance according to their geog and sector. They have also drawn the indicators for measuring the success of implementation of the proposed activity, expenditure estimates and agencies responsible for implementation.
The workshop was technically facilitated and organized by the Chief Forestry Officer, Tsirang Forest Division with financial support from Watershed Management Division, Department of Forests and Park Services, Ministry of Agriculture and Forests.
