The 3rd nomadic health campaign which is conducted annually in Merak and Sakteng kicked off in Merak on 7th October organized Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary. A team from Bhutan foundation led by Mrs. Daphne Hoch Cunningham who is one of the board members and her family and two officials from Thimphu attended the campaign. Unlike the past campaign, this year in addition to the free health services and awareness programs provided by the health officials, community animal birth control (CABC) and animal diseases surveillance program are also provided by the livestock officials to the nomads of Merak and Sakteng. Free medical outreach services like screening for IUD, HIV, HepB, Diabetes, and cervical cancers were provided in addition to the general checkup. As there is an increasing population of Feral dogs and Merak and Sakteng, the team from livestock sector led by the District livestock officer vaccinated majority of the dogs in Merak. Similar programs will also be conducted in Sakteng from 11th to 12th October, 2019.
The program is funded by Bhutan Foundation.
