Annual Forestry Conference 2017 being held in Thimphu


27 March 2017: Thimphu:The Chief Forestry Officers and forestry officials from all Field Divisions and Parks together with Chiefs, Specialists and other forestry officials of Functional Divisions are in Thimphu attending the Annual Forestry Conference, 2017 with the theme “Setting realistic targets for 12th Five Year Plan” focusing mainly on formulation of the 12th Five Year Plan of the Department.

The first two days of the conference was chaired by His Excellency Lyonpo Yeshey Dorji, Ministry of Agriculture of Agriculture and Forests. The Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bhutan, His Excellency, Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay also graced the conference on the second day, 24th March 2017. Lyonchhen lauded the dedication of foresters in protecting the forests of Bhutan and urged them to continue their hard work.

Under the Chair of Hon’bleLyonpo, the conference reviewed actions taken on the resolutions of the previous annual forestry conferences held while also discussing and finalizing the project monitoring and reporting protocol.

Aimed towards easing the service delivery and effective functioning of the Department, several management and technical issues encountered by the field offices were resolved with the key decisions taken. Representatives from the Druk Holding and Investments (DHI) also presented a concept on forestry business master plan for conservation.

In order to familiarize on its new mandates with merger of erstwhile Wildlife Conservation Divisions (WCD) and Nature Recreation and Ecotoursim Division (NRED), the Nature Conservation Division (NCD) also made a short presentation while also fielding the proposal on Protected Area revisionedited-p

In the next two days, the conference will focus much time on formulation of the DoFPS 12th Five Year Plan and on discussions on introducing environmental safeguards, proposal to address drying of water sources, timber distribution modality and assess DoFPS existing field infrastructure and additional requirements.

The Tiger IDs from Nation-wide Tiger Survey 2015 will be also handed to respective divisions and parks. The conference will conclude tomorrow, 28th March with formal adoption of the resolutions, Chaired by the Hon’ble Sanam Lyonpo.

The conference is coordinated by Forest Protection and Enforcement Division.
