The training on Forest Function Mapping for Local Forest Management Planning(LFMP) using Quantum Geographic Information System (Qgis) was conducted from 18th-22nd December, 2018 at Tashi Namgyal Grand, Phuntsholing with funding support from REDD+ Himalayas.
Forest function mapping is an important component of preparing local forest management plans. The knowledge in use of Qgis is essential for preparing function maps (viz. management area, management circle, location maps) which helps in providing information for designing the inventory as well as producing the plan for a local forest area. The training exercise consisted of learning GIS operation and functions for generating required layers and composing relevant maps. Besides, the participants also learnt the process of uploading GIS data on GPS and smart phone based GIS applications for field inventory and data collection and the use of Google Earth for compartmentalization
The training was organized in continuation to the LFMP training conducted earlier from 12th-18th November, 2018 and attended by participants from FRMD and the field divisions. The training was imparted to the field offices who are currently preparing LFMP. Prior to the training,
