Training and Validation Workshop on FIRMS and AFS 2024

The data management training on Forest Information Reporting and Monitoring System (FIRMS) and Annual Forestry Statistics (AFS) validation workshop for the data managers of 24 field offices and program focal of functional divisions was held from April 7th to 16th, 2025, in Phuntsholing. The ten-day training and workshop program aimed at not only enhancing the capacity of data managers of field and functional offices in managing (cleansing and preparation) the data in FIRMS but also help to link with learning how to use the data in validating the progress and achievement of the departments plans, programs and activities for the year 2024. The training workshop also aimed in ensuring uniform, accurate, consistent and complete data entry in FIRMS as the data is sourced from varied information system (SMART, G2C, OFS platforms) and records maintained by the field offices.

Organized by the Forest Monitoring & Information Division (FMID), the 10-day training workshop was designed to equip participants with comprehensive skills in data management and reporting for the AFS 2024. During the first five days, participants received hands-on training on key data handling techniques—including cleaning, analysis, and reporting—using Microsoft Excel and Google Looker Studio (GLS). The sessions also covered crucial modules such as data input procedures, validation methods, and analytical tools enabling field staff to generate reliable reports and come with the draft AFS report for 2024.

A total of 34 forestry personnel (20 males and 14 females) attended the training workshop provided by FMID with funding support from the Bhutan for Life (BFL) Project and The Capacity-building Initiative for Transparency (CBIT).

The concluding session of the training workshop was joined by the Chief Forestry Officer from Divisional Forest Office, Gedu.
