FIRMS V II launched today

The Forest Information Reporting and Monitoring System (FIRMS) – an online data repository of DoFPS was developed in 2017. The enhancement of the system was done over a period of time, which was launched today. The Director, DoFPS graced the launching attended by CFOs and other officials, both in person and virtually.

The enhancement was carried out basically to improve the old system. This has been done in consultation with the data managers. It entailed not only improving the existing but additional modules have been added. This has been done to capture the emerging needs of the information and data. The version II has been developed to make it easy to use and responsive to capturing wholesome data.

New features has also been developed in Version II. This includes single login with official email ID authenticated through ZESt – Zhiyog Electronic system. The system now has a total of 39 modules.

The system will capture data related to forest fire offence, conservation area, key biodiversity area, wood-based industries, park permit, wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, scientific thinning, wetland, Ramsar, water source and agro-forestry. In addition, the system will also have detail information on projects in addition to office information. The system will also have a module to correctly capture information on department hammer.

FIRMS version II will also be able to monitor user activity list. It also has the capacity to generate two system generated reports – a national and summarized reports. In trying to make it responsible, the enhanced system has been integrated with other online system, wherever applicable.

The feature of the enhancement also includes data validation where every datum punched has to be thoroughly validated to ensure it is a valid data. This is done through a series of hierarchical data managers.

The enhancement of the FIRMS system has been done aligned with the overall national efforts of digitization through investment and harnessing the potential of ICT technologies.
