The Department of Forests and Park Services, Ministry of Agriculture and Forests is working together with Desuung and Thimphu Thromde to make Thimphu City aesthetically green and nice. At the same time, the Department of Forests and Park Services is involving 25 Desuups to develop skills in greening and landscaping. The skill program was started on 13th May 2022 and still going on.
The greening of Thimphu city started planting with root ball trees at Babena town, old truck parking below the flyover bridge at Changzomtog , Semtokha roundabout and Thimphu welcome gate. The areas were planted with tree species of Empress tree, Himalayan wild cherry, native Peach, willow, blue pine, oak, maple and Melia, which can beautify the place with flowers, color of the leaves and fruits in different seasons. In total, more than 250 root ball trees were planted and are coming up encouragingly. Flowering shrubs such as forsythia, hypericum, weigela, spirea, Japanese quince and Abelia were planted in some areas.
Currently, more than 95 percent of trees planted are surviving and some Himalayan Cherry trees have even started flowering. Let us beautify our own place and keep it clean for clean environment and good health.
